Declan's First Birthday

Our little boy turned 1 year old today!! I can't believe it has already been a year. It really has gone by too fast. We are so grateful to have Declan in our family. He is such a calm and happy baby and so much fun! There are days when I am feeling stressed or overwhelmed and all I have to do is look at Declan and it helps me calm down. We call him "our little peacemaker". To celebrate his birthday we went to my parent's house for dinner. It was fun to get together as a family and we had some good entertainment watching Declan eat his cake. On Sunday we are going to go to Dan's parent's house for part 2 of Declan's birthday celebration.

I found the idea for this cake a while ago when I was searching the blogosphere . This cake has also been floating around Pinterest too. It was fun and pretty easy to make. Dan made the small cake for Declan at work. I just added the kit kats and M&Ms later. The big cake I made using just a yellow cake mix. I've been on a health kick lately and heard that you can use applesauce instead of oil when you are baking. So I used applesauce instead of oil and I also just used egg whites instead of whole eggs. I guess the chocolate makes up for the calories I kept out of the cake. :) I was a little nervous to see how it would taste and if my family would like it but it turned out great! So yummy!!

We also took Declan in for his 1 year check up today. I know, we're such mean parents to take him to the doctor on his birthday. He got 3 shots but did great!! Here are his stats:

Pool Time!!

A couple weeks ago we decided to take a drive down to my parent's house and go swimming. It was Declan's first time in the pool and he loved it! It was fun to watch Kaylee swimming all by herself (well with the help of floaties). She was so proud of herself! I can't believe how big she is getting! It makes me a little sad sometimes that she is not my little baby girl anymore but it is fun to watch her grow and learn new things!

Collett Family Vacation!!

I am so far behind on our blog....I will just have to start up again with our recent happenings. We got back from our first family vacation to Utah this week! Dan had 2 weeks off of work and ever since he finished school in December he has been itching to go on a road trip! It was definitely a new experience for Dan and I. We had never been a road trip together with kids. We stopped 2 times to feed Declan and 2 times to clean up Kaylee... because that is how many times she threw up on the drive up. So fun! We got some Dramamine for the drive home and that seemed to do the trick. We also brought along an extra large bowl just in case though. Look at us fast learners!! :) Our time in Utah was fun and filled with lots of adventures!! We stayed with Dan's sister and her family who live in West Jordan. While we were in Utah we were able to visit Dan's mission president and his wife. They travel around a lot so the timing was perfect and we were glad that we could see them. We also were able to meet up and have dinner with one of Dan's friends from his mission. It was fun to chat with him and his adorable family and get a tour of their gorgeous new home! We took a trip up Provo Canyon one day and had a picnic. One of my roommates from my freshman year of college met up with us. It was so great to see her and to meet her husband and her 2 sweet girls! I hadn't seen her for over 7 years and it was so great to chat and catch up!!! We were also able to go to my MTC companion's home and have a BBQ. She has 2 cute little girls and 1 of them is around the same age as Kaylee. They had fun playing together in the sandbox and on the swing set in the backyard! The food was delicious and it was so fun talking about our mission and updating each other about what has happened in our lives since then. On our last full day in Utah we were able to go to Temple Square. Our time at Temple Square didn't last long because Kaylee was being crazy but I am glad that were able to go. We also spent time at the park and did some shopping! I was introduced to the store Hobby Lobby while I was there...such a dangerous place to shop at. It's good that they don't have one in San Diego or I would be there all the time!!! We were also introduced to a yummy place called Yogurtland. They have Yogurtland in San Diego but we had never been before! So delicious! Overall it was a fun trip and we are hoping to make it a yearly family tradition. Here are some pictures from the trip. Declan's Blessing

Declan had his baby blessing at church today! It was a wonderful day and I was so grateful that some of our family and friends could be there. We are so lucky and grateful for all the love and support that we have so close by. One of our friends in the ward wrote down the blessing and gave it to me at the end of the meeting. I didn't even think to write it down and I was sooooooo grateful that she did.

Declan is a very calm and happy little dude which has made the transition to 2 kids easier, especially since Kaylee is DEFINITELY in her terrible 2 phase. We love our little Declan and are so blessed to have him in our family!

St. Patricks Day!

This year I wanted to do something fun for Kaylee and go all out for St. Patrick's Day. I had planned on making a leprechaun trap and having her go on a little treasure hunt but things didn't really work out the way I had planned. I started making the trap but ran out of time and patience so I wasn't able to finish it. Maybe I will try again next year. Maybe. :) I ended up decorating a little treasure chest and filling it with some candy. I gave it to her the morning of St. Patrick's day and told her the leprechaun left it for her. She loved it!!! I think mostly because she LOVES chocolate!!

We had our good friends Ethan and Ellen over the day before St. Patrick's day and made cute leprechaun pictures. So much fun!!!

I tried out a new sugar cookie recipe and made shamrock shaped sugar cookies with green frosting. They were very yummy and I am so glad that I found a good sugar cookie recipe. You can find the recipe here. My parent's had us over for a yummy corned beef and cabbage dinner and I brought some of the cookies along for dessert. Dinner was so DELICIOUS!!! I think I could have eaten all of the corned beef myself! So good!!!

I am trying harder to make holidays more fun for Kaylee and help create some great memories for her. I guess this is a start...baby steps right?! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

So here it is!! I'm not a big fan of having my picture taken, especially when I am feeling extra huge! This picture was taken on Thanksgiving when I was about 31 weeks pregnant. I have 2 more 2 week appointments and then I will start going in to see the Dr. every week until our little boy decides to come. I'm definitely feeling very pregnant these days but it still doesn't seem real to me that we are having a boy. Yesterday I washed all of the baby clothes and it was so weird pulling baby boy clothes out of the dryer. We are super excited but I don't think it will set in until they hand him to me in the hospital...and that day is coming up fast!!!

October was a very busy month for us!! In May of this year we put an offer in on a condo and we finally closed at the beginning of October. It was a long and very frustrating process but we are soooo happy that everything worked out and we are slowly getting settled into our new place. I will put up pictures as soon as things are more put together. I can't promise that it will happen any time soon though. Hopefully before baby #2 comes. :)

I am starting to realize how horrible I am at taking pictures of Kaylee. When she was little we used to take pictures of her all the time. Maybe it is because she is older and more active and doesn't stay still long enough to take pictures....or maybe it's because I am lazy...or a combination. All I can say is that I am grateful for friends who have amazing camera skills and take pictures of Kaylee.

Here are some of the pictures that we managed to take this month!

We went to the Air Show at the beginning of the month. Kaylee loved it but for days after it she kept telling us how loud the planes were.

We celebrated Kaylee's 2nd birthday! I still can't believe I have a 2 year old!!

We spent lots of time with good friends. Ethan was kind enough to help Kaylee eat her yogurt. I love watching these two play together!!

Overall, it has been a month full of fun !!! I can't believe that it is already November but I am excited for the holidays coming up and for more fun times spent with family and friends!!!

I knew when I married Dan I was marrying into a family of golfers. Dan's dad grew up playing golf and works at a golf course, his Grandpa played on the PGA and is a lifetime member, and Dan LOVES to play golf!!! I think if he had the option to play golf everyday he would. Dan's Grandpa was going through some things and he came across some junior size golf clubs. He called us and told us he wanted to give the clubs to Kaylee and that when we come and get them he could give Kaylee her first lesson! We went to their house today and Kaylee had so much fun!! It was fun to watch her interact with her Great-Grandpa. She definitely doesn't have the attention span to master the sport of golf right now but maybe one day! I can totally see Dan taking her out to the driving range with him one day. I'm ok with it...she can play golf and be a ballerina too, right?! :)

Yep, that's mascara folks!!! Dan was on the phone, I was on the computer, and Kaylee....was in the bathroom putting on her make-up!! Normally when she wanders into the bathroom she goes for her toothbrush. We are usually pretty quick about getting her before she is able to get into anything but today we weren't fast enough. You would think that I would have learned the first time she got into my make-up bag (Let's just say that she loves blush!). I should have moved it then, so silly of me!!! I can report now that my make-up bag is now kept in the hall closet on the second highest shelf. I guess we will see how long it stays safe there!!

Bonus points to anyone who knows where that quote is from! It's a CLASSIC! :) Well, my sister Heidi got married on June 25th in the San Diego Temple. They are currently doing some work on the temple so there is scaffolding all around it. It's wierd to see it like that but it was still a beautiful day. Heidi looked beautiful in her dress and so so happy! Her husband Jonathan is a really great guy and they just seem perfect together!! They were married in the morning and then had a reception later that evening. It was a long day but so fun celebrating with Heidi and spending time with family and good friends.

Summer's Here!!

I'm sure I have mentioned this before but Kaylee LOVES to be outside!!! She is always asking to go outside. On one day in particular I was trying to think of something fun for Kaylee to do. I wanted to get out of the house and just figured we could head over to my parent's house. They have a pool, backyard, and cats that Kaylee can chase....it doesn't get better than that! On the way over though I stopped at Target and picked up an inflatable baby pool, a must have for summer, right? :) Well, I set the pool up in my parent's backyard and Kaylee had a blast!!

Kaylee enjoyed the pool for a while but then it became more exciting to dump water on the chair....silly girl!!

Abby's Flying Fairy School!!!

I LOVE that Kaylee LOVES Sesame Street!!! I grew up watching Sesame Street and it makes me sooo happy that she gets so excited the moment the theme music starts! There is a segment on Sesame Street called Abby's Flying Fairy School and Kaylee LOVES it!!!! It's actually pretty cute! Now whenever she sees any girl monster on the show she calls her Abby. So funny! I think we are going to dress her up as Abby for Halloween this year....already brainstorming! :)

Our Zoo passes expired in march of this year so we decided to splurge and get Sea World passes! They were having a deal where if you buy one year you get the 2nd year free. We just couldn't pass it up! Plus, Kaylee is still young enough so we don't have to pay for her. Gotta take advantage of it while we can! :) Anyway, at Sea World they have an area of the park called Sesame Street's Bay of Play. While wandering around the gift shop I came across this:

Of course, I had to buy it!!! I wish I was able to get some pictures of Kaylee at Sea World but she wouldn't stay still. Such a busy girl! I'll have to try harder next time we go! :)

Today we went to a birthday party for our friend's son who just turned 2. There were lots of little kids there and Kaylee had a blast!! Kaylee was walking on the cement patio in their backyard and attempted to walk off the edge and ended up face planting. It was like slow motion when it happened. It was only a couple inches from the cement to the grass/mud but Kaylee isn't so graceful when it comes to stepping down from things. She is a tough girl and just wanted to get up and keep playing. Of course we had to get a picture of her before we cleaned her up! :)

Beach Baby!!

I am a little embarrassed to admit this, seeing as I live in San Diego, but today was the first day that Kaylee went in the ocean. I wasn't sure exactly how she would react to the water but as soon as we put her down on the beach she headed straight towards the water. She ran all over the place, got knocked over by the water a few times, and absolutely loved it!!! It was such a beautiful day!! It was one of those days where I was reminded why I LOVE living in San Diego. We were originally planning on just having her play in the sand and so we didn't bring any towels or any sort of beach gear with us. BIG MISTAKE!! Next time we will definitely be more prepared! Dan was really excited that Kaylee loved the beach because he grew up going to the beach A LOT!! Me, not so much...and I think watching Jaws ruined it for me as well. :) It was a really fun afternoon and I was glad that we could spend some relaxing time as a family before the stress of school begins again for Dan. If anyone wants to take a trip to the beach, we're in!!

That's right....Kaylee is 1 year old today! I can't believe it! This last year has flown by!! Kaylee is such a fun baby and so happy!!! She is always smiling! She loves to walk, give hugs, go on walks in her stroller, be read to, and explore new things! Such a fun girl! Happy Birthday Kaylee!!!! WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

It's About Time!!!!

So, we finally took Kaylee to the zoo!! We bought year passes back in March and on Monday of this week our schedules worked out and we were finally able to go. We met up with some friends of ours that have a baby boy that is around the same age as Kaylee. We went later in the day so the weather was perfect and we were really able to enjoy our time there. It was fun to watch Kaylee and how she responded to seeing all the animals....she really wasn't that interested in them. I guess I was expecting her to get all crazy excited like she did when I took her to feed the ducks at Poway Lake. She was more fascinated with all the people there and trying to grab the wires and bars that went around the animal enclosures than looking at the actual animals. She just loves being outside so I think that she was just happy to be outside in an exciting, new environment. It was so much fun taking her to the zoo and I can't wait to take her again. Hopefully it will be sooner than later! :)

Dan came home from work at around 6:30 this morning and when he came in the room he told me he had a treat for me and set something down on the nightstand. I was not quite awake yet but I sat up and looked over at the nightstand and there was a donut box. I smiled thinking about the donut that I would be eating later for breakfast but then just went back to bed. Donuts are probably not the best food to be eating if I want to reach my goal of losing 40 pounds and eventually running a marathon but they are a nice treat every once and a while. :) Anyways, when I got up later I opened up the box and this is what I found. That's definitely no ordinary box of donuts. Looks like Dan had some fun at the bakery this morning...such a sweety!!!

4th of July!!!

We had a very fun 4th of July this year. Friends and Family gathered at my parent's house for a BBQ, swimming in the pool, ping pong, and fireworks. I must say I was pretty impressed with the firework show that Poway High put on this year. One of their best yet! Since it was Kaylee's first 4th of July I wanted her to look festive. My sister and I had to run some errands in the morning and while we were at the store I looked for something cute to dress her in. I was unsuccessful. They only had a couple outfits left and what was left was way too small for Kaylee. I guess that is what I get for waiting until the last minute. Anyways, I ended up being creative and putting something together for her. I think it turned out pretty cute considering the materials I had to work with. I saved money and I had fun!

9 Months!!!

Kaylee had her 9 month check-up last week. She had to get 2 shots and they had to prick her toe to test her blood to see if she is anemic. She was completely calm for the toe prick, remained calm for the 1st shot, and then on the 2nd shot the tears came. She only cried for a few seconds though. We were so proud of her! She is such a brave little girl!!! Here are her stats:

Height: 29 inches (95th percentile)
Weight: 20 lbs. 8 ozs. (75th percentile)
Head: 44.4 cm (75th percentile)

As you can tell she is still growing like a weed. She is at such a fun age and always soooo happy!!!! She loves to crawl and pull herself up on everything and a couple times she has let go and stood by herself. She is such a strong girl and I think she is going to be walking soon...which means even more running around after her! :) She says Dada (A LOT) and this last week she said Mama for the first time. It was a very exciting day for me!! Kaylee loves to dance. I love the show So You Think You Can Dance and I think Kaylee is a fan as well because every time the music starts she crawls closer to the TV, pulls herself up on something and starts bouncing up and down and moving her arms to the music. It is so cute!!! I am so excited to get her into dance classes! Kaylee also likes to yell a lot!!! We were pretty lucky for a while because she was yelling a lot but not at church. That all changed this last Sunday. She only lasted for half of sacrament meeting before she started yelling. Let's just say she spent most of church in the foyer. It will be interesting to see how long this yelling phase lasts. Kaylee also loves being outside and especially loves going on walks to the lake and splashing in the pool which makes for some fun pictures and videos. All I can say is that Kaylee has been such an amazing blessing!!! She is our little sunshine and we are having so much fun watching her learn and grow into such a beautiful little girl!

Last week Kaylee and I took advantage of the beautiful, warm, San Diego weather that we've been having. We went on a few walks, splashed in the pool, and had a picnic at the lake. Overall we had a full fun week spending time with good friends and family. One of the highlights of last week was a trip up to Lake Poway to feed the ducks. This was Kaylee's first experience with the simple joy of feeding ducks. I attempted last week to upload a video I took of our little adventure but have not been having much luck uploading it. I will attempt to upload it this week but until then I will leave you with this picture that was taken by Dan's sister.

Daniel has been anxious to get Kaylee in the water. He is convinced that she is going to be a beach bum like he was growing up. Well we have been waiting for the water in the pool to warm up. It has been a little chilly! I have put her feet in the pool a few times and after the initial shock...because she really has only been used to warm bath water.....she started kicking and splashing. So loves water! The weather has been very nice recently so today.....the splasher went on, the swimsuit went on, the hat went on, and into the pool Kaylee went. It was so fun to watch her and based on our experience today, I think the majority of our summer is going to be spent in the water!

Uncle Rudy

This week my brother Rudy came to visit before heading back up to work fishing in Alaska. For those of you familiar with the show "The Deadliest Catch", that is exactly what my brother does. So crazy!!! I think he is part of the same fleet of ships that are on the show. I'm not sure exactly but he knows the crews that are a part of the show. I have seen the show a few times but I have a hard time watching it because it scares me knowing that Rudy is out there doing such a dangerous job. He has shown us some pretty cool pictures though like ones of him laying in a big tank full of king crab. It was fun having him here and Kaylee loved getting to spend some time with her Uncle Rudy. 6 Months and Going Strong!!

Our little princess turned 6 months at the beginning of this month. We took her in for her 6 month check up and here are her stats:

Weight: 17 lbs. (75th Percentile)
Height: 28 in. (Off the charts!!!)
Head: 43 1/4 cm. (75th Percentile)

Just this last week Kaylee has discovered how to grab onto the side of her crib and pull herself up. Looks like we need to lower the bottom of the crib. I have to say though, I don't mind waking up to this beautiful little sunshine every morning. She is all smiles!!! She isn't usually cross eyed. I think it is because she is focusing in on my cell phone that I am taking the picture with. So funny!

Spending some good quality time with her Daddy. I love my babies!!! :)

She likes to hold one leg up in the air when she is drinking her bottle sometimes. I don't know why she does it but it makes us laugh every time.

This is the last post for today. I promise. So about 2 years ago I bought the materials to make a sign that would be hung in our first home. Well, after 2 years I finally took out the materials and made it and am quite pleased with how it turned out. My next project is something that will eventually be hung in Kaylee's room. It will be a display that includes the dress that she was blessed in. Hopefully it won't take me 2 years to complete it. :)

I mentioned in my previous post that my sister Lora and her baby Dallin came to visit. We were able to get some cute pictures and videos of Kaylee and Dallin together. Dallin is about 3 months younger than Kaylee. It was fun to see them together and it made me think back to when Kaylee was that old. I still can't believe that she is going to be 6 months this week!!!! Where did the time go??!!! Kaylee is at such a fun age. She is a fast scooter and we are expecting her to start crawling any day now. We have introduced her to rice cereal and are excited to start her on fruits soon. She has definitely discovered her voice. My new alarm clock is her yelling at the top of her lungs. So great....but not appreciated at 3 in the morning. :) We are just glad that so far she has not shared her yelling abilities at church, although I am sure it is only a matter of time. She is all smiles these days too!! We have found her ticklish spots and love to hear her giggle!!! She is so much fun and every time I look at her I am so grateful to have her in my life. She is such a blessing and she brings so much joy to our lives!!

She gets up on her hands and knees and then flops back down on her belly and starts kicking and moving her arms like she is free falling. I need to get some pictures of her and post them. So funny!!! My younger sister Lora is visiting this week with her son Dallin who is 2 and a half months. He is super cute! It has been fun to watch how Kaylee responds when she is around him. We will definitely be taking pictures of them together and I will be posting them soon. For now, here is a picture of Kaylee holding her bottle all by herself!! With that kind of coordination she is definitely going to become a pole-vaulter just like her mommy was!! Well at least I like to tell myself that. Dan is convinced that she will play water polo like he did. We will see.... :)

Yesterday I took Kaylee to the Dr. for her 4 month check-up. She will actually be 5 months next Sunday, but anyways, she had to get 4 more shots. I prepared myself this time and actually didn't cry. It was hard not crying listening to Kaylee...she was not a happy camper! The visit was good and here are her stats:

Weight: 15 lbs 4 ozs (85th percentile)
Length: 25 and a half inches (90th percentile)
Head: 42 cm (75 percentile)

I started reading Pride and Prejudice last night. I am enjoying it so far. It's funny though because as I am reading I am picturing the actors from the mini-series. The one with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy of course. I will let you know what I think of the book when I am done. Question though....for those who have watched the mini-series and also seen the movie with Keira Knightley, which did you prefer?

Yesterday we went to church at Dan's parent's ward because a friend of ours just got back from her mission and was speaking in their ward. It was a great experience and fun to spend time with family and friends. Kaylee got all kinds of attention and was just loving it! One adorable little girl sang The Itsy Bitsy Spider to her and another girl wrote the sweetest note with a picture. It is so fun to watch Kaylee because she just loves it when there are other little kids around her. Dan's sister just had twin girls about 2 weeks ago and we are so excited for Kaylee to meet them and see how she acts around them...and of course we are sooooo excited to meet them too!! I'm sure we will have lots of pictures to post! :)
Changing topics completely....I just recently finished reading the book Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister. It is written by the same author who wrote Wicked. I am having a hard time deciding what to read next. I thought about reading Wicked. I have seen the musical which was AMAZING but I have never read the book. My dad says that the book is different than the musical....that happens a lot with movies or musicals that are based off of the book. Anyways, I also thought about reading a classic, Pride and Prejudice...and Dan would like me to read The Slight Edge....I just don't know. Anyone have any suggestions???

Kaylee is making all kinds of fun noises these days! Two weeks ago in church she let out a noise very similar to the one in the video right in the middle of someone giving a prayer. So great! She definitely has a set of lungs on her and wants her opinion to be heard. Gotta love her!! :)

Dan made this video for one of his computer classes that he took last semester at SDSU. It turned out really cute and it made my mom cry. I can't even count how many times I have watched it...it amazes me how fast she is growing. Dan wants to keep adding to it so that she will have fun watching it when she is older. I think it turned out awesome! Good job Daddy!

Our Little Princess!

Yesterday we took a trip to Babies R Us, my favorite place, to get a few items. In the back of the store they have a bunch of miniature couches and chairs. Dan had fun putting Kaylee in each one but I think that this one was the best! Kaylee turned 3 months old on January 1st. She is growing so much we finally had to move her out of her bassinet and into her big crib. She is so much fun though and she is smiling a lot more and making all kinds of noises.

Kaylee is now 2 months old!! I still can't believe it. The time is flying by and she is growing so fast! Today she had her 2 Month Dr. appointment. She had to get 4 shots! Lets just say that she cried and I cried...it was a traumatic experience to say the least. She is making great progress though. Dan and I were curious to see how much weight she had gained since our last visit. She weighed 8 lbs 12 ozs last visit and this visit she was 10lbs 13.5 ozs. It is nice to know that she is growing and that she is healthy and strong. She is smiling a lot more and focusing on things. The other day my family was watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas out on the big projector screen in our living room and I took her out there and she loved it. She stared up at the big screen and couldn't take her eyes off it. It was fun to watch her. We are having lots of fun!

Kaylee loves to chill in her bathtub in the bathroom while I get ready for the day. I think she likes the bright lights of the bathroom. I like to think it is because she likes to be near her mom :).

When Kaylee was a little smaller and her outfits were still a little too big, she used to pull her legs up close to her and rest her feet above the legs of her outfit. She liked to be tight and snugly. So it looks like her leg is bent all weird in this picture but her legs really aren't in the legs of the outfit.

Kaylee Christine Collett was born on October 1 @ around 6:00 p.m.. She weighed in at 8 lbs 2 ozs and was 19 inches long. I ended up having to have a c-section and Kaylee had an infection and was admitted to the NICU the day she was born. She was put on 10 day antibiotics and so we did not get to take her home when I was discharged from the hospital. She had to stay for another week. She made amazing progress in the NICU and by the time we got to take her home she was up to 8 lbs 14 ozs. She is continuing to grow and we are having so much fun watching all of her many adorable facial expressions. Sometimes I look at her and can not believe that I am a mom...but I am loving it and she is such a blessing. :)

Well, no baby yet. My due date is this Friday but there are no signs of her coming anytime soon. We went to the doctor last week and they said that she is a little farther down but that was about it. Dan says that she is taking after him already and just being stubborn. I am very anxious and can't wait to see our little girl. Hopefully next time I post something it will be baby pictures. :)

Well I have had this blog set up for a while now but haven't done anything with it. I thought I would just write about what we have been up to. Dan and I are living in San Diego. I finished school at BYU-Idaho with a degree in Elementary Education last July. Dan will be transferring to SDSU in September. I am working at a law office and trying to patiently wait for our baby girl Kaylee to be born. She is due October 3rd. We are VERY excited but getting more and more nervous as the day gets closer and closer. That's about all...life is good!
